Welcome to the 2005 Year

Welcome all 6H soccer players and Parents!

Hi, I'm Mark and I'm new to the club this year, and so is my son Luke. I have volunteered to be the 6H team coach with Kylie (Ryan’s mother) as the Manager. I understand that there are quite a few players that played last year – please feel free to talk to me to bring me up to speed.

There is much news and information that I need to relay to you! I attended the Coaches and Managers meeting last night - got the info pack, so it's all fresh in my mind. I recommend you print this out for quick access.

I would like to start by saying apologies to those who know any of this information I'm about to detail. I'm new - and thought it wise to relay as much as I can. Please take the time to read all info and reply with any questions that you may have.

I hope that I can help our children have the most fun playing soccer this year. It’s all about having fun and feeling like part of the team!

Trial Matches
The following 2 Sunday’s 6H has Trial Matches at Montview oval.
This Sunday 13th March
Time 9:15am to 10:00am
6H is playing 6O on the oval named Montview Field 5 (I don’t know which one that is yet – but they play on half field size across the field).

Note: 9:15am is Kick Off time – so it’s important to get there at least 15 minutes before – as we need to allocate shirts, signoff on who has attended and work out who is going on in what position! Can we all please get there at 9am

Under 6’s matches have 20 minute halves.

Sunday 20th March
Time: 9am – 10am
This is the 2nd trial match.
6H is to play Thornleigh 6 – Purple.

Registration and Equipment
It looks like everyone has paid fees and filled out registration forms etc, but if you haven’t it’s very important that you do – otherwise we can’t let the player on the field. We have all the shirts, make sure your child has the correct shorts, socks, shin pads and boots. Shin pads are VERY important – I don’t think you can be allowed to play without them. It can save legs being broken (touch wood – and it’s very rare). You will be asked to share in the washing of the shirts. All shirts must be kept together and washed together (keeps the colours and fading even). Some ref’s won’t let the kids play without their shirts / numbers. We will try to allocate a number to each player to make identification easier throughout the season.

I’ve been given all the training equipment – balls, bibs, cones etc - so we are ready to train!

Note: Socks can be bought from the Canteen this year!

You must make sure your child has a Drink bottle for Training and Games – they need to drink and I don’t want then running off to taps!

Training
After the last grading day, training was organized for Thursday’s at 4pm. Last night I penciled this into the oval time allocations BUT Kylie informed me that one of the parents has approached her that this is not possible. I’m leaving this one with Kylie – she will be phoning you all. It’s very important that we get this sorted out ASAP – and Sunday might be a good day to revisit it.

I hope that training can start next week on the day decided. Some teams have already started training – but this year is different – due to the fact that Easter is early and in March – so trial games have been brought well forward.

We have a backup coach too – Max Sinicco (Christian’s dad) is going to help out where needed – otherwise myself and possibly Kylie will be conducting the training.

At this stage training could last upto 1 hour. This may be shortened depending on field availability and times. Please make sure that your child get’s dropped off and picked up off time – and delivered to the coach/manager – not left at the roadside. Safety is a no1 priorty for me!

In case of wet weather: There is a wet weather info line from KDSA – 1900 957 016 = updated 1pm and 3pm daily for training. (the kdsa website is another alternative – and free)

Just cause it’s raining doesn’t mean training is off though – I’ll need to talk to you all about this one.

I haven’t trained before – but I’m in the playing in the Over 35’s team this year (played for 6 years as a kid), and hope to go to the training course coming up soon. There are strict rules for child protection which I will adhere to, and I’ll do my best to make sure the kids have a great time – and even learn a little about being a team in soccer!

Games / Location and Times etc
We can play anywhere from Bewowra to Gordon. Once the competition begins, games will be on Saturday’s and probably around 9am. The http://www.hhsc.org.au/ has a wealth of information on field closures etc – and Must be checked on the Fri night for any last minute changes. We hope to setup a contact list so all of us just needs to contact one other teammate to get the message out. There is also a wet weather info line from KDSA – 1900 957 016 = updated 7pm Friday. (the kdsa website is another alternative – and free)

Just cause it’s raining doesn’t mean the game is cancelled. If they are open and safe – we play.

We will be substituting players during the game, and we are required that all players get equal opportunity in all positions – including goalie (at least at this age). Please talk to me if you have any concerns.

Help Required
Through the year, your help would be very much appreciated in all of these areas:
1) Dress fields – if you can get there early and we are first on the field, flags and net’s need to be put up and taken down at the end of the day.
2) Canteen helpers – Our field is made very warm and family oriented because we have a canteen. Not many fields do – and it’s relying on the one full time canteen manager getting help from us. No child under fourteen can help in the canteen – and 3 parents are needed to help in the canteen each Sat.
3) Oranges! Yes – half time oranges is Very Important for our players – we should all take turns on this one. We will need to develop some sort of roster.
4) Communication! We all need to communicate – because our club can be fined if we miss games etc. We only have 7 players – and 6 are needed on the field – so we don’t have a lot of space to play.

Some Rules for Parents
There are different rules for Coaches/ Managers, but I thought it’d be good to share what was given to me by the club in regards to Parents responsibilities.
1. If Children are interested, encourage them to participate. However, if a child is not willing do not force them.
2. Focus upon the child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
3. Teach the child that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without to much disappointment.
4. Encourage children always to play to the rules.
5. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
6. Remember that children learn best from example.
7. Applaud good players in both opposing and own team.
8. Remember, most officials give their time and effort for your child’s enjoyment.
9. If you disagree with an official, do not raise the issue with the official in question. Feel free to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
10. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and managers. They give of their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your children and they deserve your support and assistance.
11. There is to be no drinking of alcohol on the sideline, at any time.
